Biography

LIP Service, a taped library for disabled people, was set up in 1983. It was at first called Disabled Persons' Taped Library, but soon became L.I.P. Service, sometimes called L.I.P.S. Permission was sought from publishers, and readers found to make recreational tapes for the permanently or temporarily disabled. The disabled were encouraged to be as involved as possible. The Service lapsed in about 1989, largely because of the great increase in commercially produced tapes.
