Biography

R. & E. Tingey & Co. were wholesale and retail dealers in oils, paints, wallpaper and glass. The firm opened its Christchurch premises in 1926/1927. The entrance to the Christchurch shop was on Tuam Street. The business was located on the southern side of Tuam Street and extended to Mollett Street and was listed at 154 Tuam Street. In the early 1980s it began trading under the name Tingeys Ltd. It last appears in the 1984 Wises Directory. Founded in Wanganui in 1868 by brothers Richard and Edward Tingey
