Biography
The overarching governing body has had several name changed over its existence. It began in 1912 as the Institute of Local Government Engineers, in 1914 it broadened its scope and became the New Zealand Society of Civil Engineers. In 1937 it then became the New Zealand Institute of Engineers and in 1982 the Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ). This name continued until 2017 when it became Engineering New Zealand IPENZ remains the legal name The first president of the Canterbury Branch was John Richard Templin, an American born Electrical Engineer. He was elected on 29th June 1935
