Biography

The Club was formed in February 1937 to stimulate and encourage travel and to entertain travellers to Christchurch. Founding members included Mrs Ruth Young, the first president, the Mayor, Mr John Walton Beanland, and later president Sir Joseph George Davidson Ward. The club was set up to welcome and provide social activities for visitors. After 2 years it had a membership of 746 and a waiting list of 80. The club wound up in February 2016 after 78 years.
