Biography

Inaugural meeting was held on 11th March 1891 in Christchurch, the first general meeting on the 28th July 1891 with election of Mr Leonard Harper as president and his son Arthur Paul Harper as secretary. It was modelled on the Alpine Club of London. The club published the first copy of the New Zealand Alpine Journal in 1892. It also published The Climber magazine from 1992-2020.
