Biography
The Christchurch Liedertafel, a male voice choir, was formed in 1885. Introductory steps towards formalisation were taken by W.G. Rhind Esq, who convened a meeting at Warner’s Commercial Hotel, Christchurch, of all the leading musicians in the city. The meeting was attended by Messrs Rhind, Tosey, Kelsey, Simms, Appleby and J. Hobbs. Thereafter, three-weekly practices commenced and were held firstly, in rooms lent by Mr Hobbs in Cathedral Square. Later, a practice room was subsequently hired from Messrs Milner and Thompson over their High Street shop in May 1885.
