Biography

The Girl Guides Association New Zealand (GGANZ) was formed as a uniformed voluntary youth organisation for girls and young women aged 6–19; its mission, as stated in 1993, was 'to help girls develop into confident and self-respecting young women, responsive to the needs of others'. Girls of different age groups formed different groups - as at 2021 these being Pippins 5-6years; Brownies 7-9.5 years; Guides 10- 12.5 years; Rangers 12-17 years. At the 2008 Centenary the name changed to GirlGuiding New Zealand. Both the National Headquarters Offices, in Armagh Street Christchurch, and Cracroft House, built in the 1860s and gifted to the Guide Association in 1959 by Mr and Mrs Cracroft Wilson, were damaged in the Christchurch earthquakes 2010/2011. “The Barn” (located behind Cracroft House and built as an accommodation facility) became the National Headquarters Offices before relocating to 5 Sir William Pickering Drive,Christchurch.
