Biography

In 1986 a group of Christchurch businessmen proposed a 167m Christchurch Tourist Tower be erected in Victoria Square. Jamie Tulloch, property developer, was the spokesperson for this group. Opponents of the proposal formed the Protect Victoria Square Society in 1987. A tribunal was set up to consider public submissions and in its report, published in April 1988, concluded that the tower should be rejected due to its detrimental impact on the area. Following this outcome the society was dissolved.
