Biography

The City of Christchurch Highland Pipe Bank was formed as an offshoot of the Scottish Society about 1933. It was formed as a Protestant band in reaction to perceived over emphasis on Catholic participation in the Scottish Society. Joe Patterson was the instigator of the move to make up the Protestant band. The City of Christchurch Ladies' Highland Pipe Band broke the world marching distant record by marching 23 miles in May 1958. Margaret Geddes was the Pipe Major.
