This Branch was formed in 1947, but the records here begin in 1961. Included are papers of the Redcliffs-Sumner Sub-Branch, which began in 1967 and went into recess in 2001, and some papers of the Kaiapoi Sub-Branch. The Branch's original name was New Zealand Save the Children Fund. North Canterbury Branch.
In 1994 the name changed to Save the Children Fund New Zealand. North Canterbury Branch; in 1999 to Save the Children New Zealand. North Canterbury Branch; and in 2002 to SCNZ Christchurch Branch.
