Biography

High Street booksellers, stationers and publishers, founded in 1862 by J.T. Hughes. Alfred Simpson bought the firm in 1878, and in 1886 went into partnership with J.S. Williams. In 1893 they became a limited liability company which continued until closure in 1973.

The records of Simpson & Williams booksellers, stationers and publishers includes directors' minutes and Secretary's reports. Includes minutes of annual meetings of shareholders, 1894-1929, at the back of the volume, and 2 letters, 1920 and 1929, slipped into the volume.
