Biography

The Library opened in 1929 and operated as a community run library with support from the Canterbury Public Library until the 1960s when the public library decided to open its first professionally staffed suburban library. Spreydon Public Library was absorbed in 1971 by the Spreydon branch of the Canterbury Public Library, which officially opened on 6 March and still operates today.

The records of Spreydon Public Library includes minute books, 1934-1970, with a photograph of the Library inside the front cover of the 1941-1951 volume, and newspaper clippings pasted at back of 1934-1940 volume.
