Biography
The Sydenham Borough Council was established on October 29th 1877 with the end of the Provincial Government. Sydenham Borough Council was dissolved and replaced with four seats for the area as part of Christchurch City Council in 1903.
The boundaries of the Council as gazetted on 20 September 1877 formed the area to the south of Christchurch across the railway yards which included Addington and Newtown settlements and down Colombo Street South to the Strickland and Tennyson Streets intersections. Following a poll of ratepayers in favour of amalgamation with the City in January 1903, Sydenham Borough Council amalgamated withe Christchurch City Council at the same time as the Linwood and St Albans Boroughs. The Sydenham Borough Council was therefore dissolved and replaced with four seats for the area in the newly combined City Council.
