Biography

The organisation was founded in 1888 as the Australasian Association for the Advancement of Science, and the name changed to the Australian and New Zealand Association for the Advancement of Science in 1930. The organisation’s first Christchurch meeting was in 1891 at Canterbury College. The 40th Congress, also held in Christchurch, was opened by the Governor-General in on January 24th, 1968. More than 2700 delegates attended, including about 1000 from Australia.
