Biography
The Christchurch Tramway Board was re-branded to the Christchurch Transport Board by the Local Legislation Act 1951. This changed the Board's constitutional leglslation to reflect changes in its operations, largely due to a move away from using trams.
From 1951, buses began to replace trams across the network with the the last trams in Christchurch running in 1954. New routes were also established in areas of residential development uincluding Riccarton, Ilam, Harewood Road, Shirley, Aranui and Fendalton.
In 1989, following amalgamation of local authorities, transport services were required to be divested or corporotised as Local Authority Trading Enterprises. In 1991, following a tender process, it became Christchurch Transport Limited.

Includes files relating to the Ferry Road Depot, property, city traffic, roadworks, fares, licensing and files relating to specific bus services delivered by the Board. Includes some staff records which relate to individuals.
