Biography
The Akaroa Borough Council first met in January 1877, after the abolishment of the provinces in 1876. The Akaroa Borough Council amalgamated with the Akaroa County Council (also established in 1877) to become the Akaroa County Council on 1 April 1957.
In 1989 the Lyttelton Borough Council, Mt Herbert, Wairewa and Akaroa County Councils merged to become Banks Peninsula District Council. In 2006 the Banks Peninsula District Council merged with Christchurch City Council.
