Biography

The Abattoir committee is first recorded in committee minutes in 1875. On 17 August 1903, the Christchurch City Council Abattoir opened in and from this date the minutes become about the operations of this abattoir at 19 Racecourse Road, Sockburn.

In 1909 the Abattoir Commitee expanded it's remit to include markets to become the Abattoir and Markets Committee.
