Biography

The Department of City Administration was created in 1973 from the former Town Clerk's Office. Following the 1989 amalgamation the newly expanded Christchurch City Council introduced a new management structure, organising Council activities into five groups. The Corporate Services Group was created and included the administration manager, personnel manager and information services section.

In 2003, the Finance Group ceased to exist and all financial functions became part of the Corporate Services Group.

In 2014 the Council divided its operations into two focus areas; day-to-day operations and Rebuild and Recovery Operations following the 2010-2011 Canterbury Earthquakes. Corporate Services was part of the day-to-day operations area. In 2015, the Financial and Commercial Group was created and became part of the Rebuild and Operations area.

In 2021 a new Group Structure was put in place moving Facilities, Property and Planning, Human Resources and Information Technology into the newly created Resources Group. Risk and Audit was moved to becoming a direct report to the Chief Executive.
