Christchurch City Council. Mayor's Office (1924-Present)

- Existence: 1924 - Present
Biography
The first Mayor of Christchurch City Council was W. Wilson in 1868, although there had been Chairmen since the Council was established in 1863.
Although it is likely that the administrative support functions for the Mayor were in place prior, the first official mention of a Mayor's Office is following the opening of the Christchurch City Council offices on Manchester Street in 1924. The building included Mayor and Mayoresses suites which includes the Mayor's Office.
From then the Mayor's Office has continued to be part of Christchurch City Council and has operated as a separate office from the main structure of the Council but has remained located with the Civic Office buildings, first Manchester Streeet then to Tuam Street and then Hereford Street.
