Lyttelton Cemetery (1873-)
Biography
Also known as the Lyttelton Catholic and the Lyttelton Public Cemetery. The cemetery opened in 1873. The original reserves were set aside in 1862 by the Provincial Council as the 'Roman Catholic Cemetery Reserve' (no 45) and the 'Dissenters Cemetery Reserve' (no 46) and one of the first trustees included well known Wesleyan minister Rev William Morley. It was gazetted in 1873 as the Lyttelton Cemetery however. In 1920 the Lyttelton Borough Council took over control of the cemetery from the Lyttelton Public Cemetery Board.
