Records of Banks Peninsula cemeteries including Akaroa Anglican/Church of England Cemetery; Akaroa Roman Catholic Cemetery; Akaroa Dissenters Cemetery; Lyttelton Public Cemetery; Pigeon Bay Cemetery; Little River Cemetery; Kaituna Cemetery; Duvauchelle Cemetery; Wainui Cemetery and Le Bons Bay Cemetery. Records are largely incomplete but include burial registers, minutes and financial information relating to Cemetery Boards and plot plans.

Also includes plot plans for Okains Bay Cemetery and Gebbies Valley Church Cemetery.

Arrangement

The records in this series have been arranged by Cemetery location in chronological order. This means that all Akaroa and Lyttelton cemetery records are listed within one sub-series with clear titles to note which cemetery is being referred to. Where applicabe, the records within the sub-series have been further arranged by record type. Within each sub-series the records have been arranged according to record type in so far as they can be identified.

Cemeteries Database and Recordkeeping System (Post‑2011)

From 2011 onwards, the former paper-based system was replaced by a central digital administrative system maintained by Christchurch City Council. The Cemeteries Database includes transcribed entries from physical records held in Council Archives, as well as from church records. The database is updated monthly and serves as the primary central record of burials for Christchurch City Council. A link to the database is available in the External Documents section.
