Biography
The Christchurch Press is the oldest surviving newspaper in the South Island. It has been in publication since 1861, when it was founded by James Edward FitzGerald (1818-1896) who was sole owner until 1867. The Christchurch Press Company itself was established in 1890 by George Stead, and the Christchurch Press Company was sold in 1987 to Independent Newspapers Ltd.

Christchurch Press Company press clippings
Press clippings of historical interest collected from the Christchurch Press Company. These clippings are chiefly articles about early Christchurch, with some concerning Canterbury and Westland. Most of the clippings are taken from ca. 1969-1976 copies of the Press. Many of the clippings are mounted on white paper.
