Biography
The Christchurch Press is the oldest surviving newspaper in the South Island. It has been in publication since 1861, when it was founded by James Edward FitzGerald (1818-1896) who was sole owner until 1867. The Christchurch Press Company itself was established in 1890 by George Stead, and the Christchurch Press Company was sold in 1987 to Independent Newspapers Ltd.

Correspondence concerning a court case against Phineas Selig, the manager of The Press Company over their reporting of Dr. Williams' Pink Pills for Pale People. The paper had refuted the claim that the pills could cure paralysis.
