The Motor Racing Club
Biography
The Motor Racing Club began as a faction of the Canterbury Car Club who split off as they wanted to conduct major race meets. The club ran the Lady Wigram Trophy Race at the Wigram Aerodrome from 1949 (first known as the New Zealand Championship Road Race, the event was renamed the Lady Wigram Trophy Race in 1951) until the airfield was closed and races could no longer continue. The Motor Racing Club has since been amalgamated back into the Canterbury Car Club.
