Biography

The New Zealand Values Party, considered the first national level Green party in the World, began at Victoria University of Wellington in May 1972. The first leader of the party was Tony Brunt. The party contested five general elections , 1972, 1975, 1978, 1981 and 1984, but never managed to win a seat. The party council decided in 1989 to wind the party up. In 1990 some remaining members joined forces with other environmental groups to become the Green Party of Aotearoa
