Biography
Thomas and Mary Rudd and their five children settled in Woodend in the early 1870s. Matthew and Margaret Hall arrived in Canterbury in 1860 and settled in Kaiapoi. Mary and Margaret were sisters, nee Farrer. Another sister, Jane, married James Little. The Great Northern Hotel, Charles Street, Kaiapoi, was built in the 1870s.

Scope and Contents
Photocopies (some of poor quality) of papers relating to the Hall, Rudd, Farrer and Little families compiled by Stewart Stubbs. The papers include a copy of photograph of the Great Northern Hotel, Charles Street, Kaiapoi, about 1906. There is a sheet of information about the hotel, and some of the people in the photograph are identified.
