Biography

William Henry Reuben Goodrick, a carpenter, came out to Melbourne in 1852, aged 21. In 1854 he married Eliza Frost Merriman. In 1865 they and their son William Henry Reuben, born 1854, came to Hokitika.

In 1876 William Henry Reuben married Mary Anne Hughes, in Hokitika. Their son, William Henry, was born in 1879. He married Frances Elizabeth Bidmead in 1908 in Hokitika, and he died in 1923 in Christchurch. Their daughter Gladys, the donor of these family papers, was born in 1915, in Christchurch.

Scope and Contents

The papers of the Goodrick family include original diaries, with bound photocopies of manuscript copies of diaries for use. The diaries, 1852-1868, were written by William Reuben Goodrick on the voyage out, in Australia, and, from 1865, in Hokitika.

Also included are various other papers relating to the family including financial records; baptism and marriage certificates and a school report and confirmation certificate for Francis Goodwick.
