Biography

Peter Dunbar is best known for his work with the Christchurch City Council, his involvement with the Christchurch Arts Centre in the 1980s, and his work on promoting the building of a new pier in New Brighton in the 1990s.

Peter Dunbar was a chemist and co-owner of Dunbar's New Brighton Pharmacy, a member of various Christchurch City Council boards and trusts, a former city councillor, and a member and Chairman of the Christchurch Arts Centre Board. He won the Values Party award for his work with the Christchurch Arts Centre in November 1982, and received the Queen's Service Medal from the New Year Honours list for his work with the Christchurch Arts Centre in 1985. He was also a member of various New Brighton groups including the New Brighton Businessmen's Association, New Brighton Highland Pipe Band, the New Brighton Photographic Society, and more. He was the chairman of the New Brighton Pier and Foreshore Society and oversaw the Pier Promotion Trust.
