Biography

Douglas Gordon Donald Mackie, known as Don, was born in Kaimata in 1901 and was the youngest of ten children. He attended New Plymouth Boy's High School, then went to Canterbury College where he graduated as an electrical engineer. In the 1920s he moved to Australia and eventually settled in Sydney. Don died in 1983.

Images taken by Douglas Gordon Donald Mackie showing the Christchurch city centre and Banks Peninsula area. The 14 images of the city centre include the Peace Arches, Cathedral Square, the Arts Centre, Captain Scott memorial statue, Madras Street and Oxford Terrace. The three images from Banks Peninsula show people, presumably showing Douglas Mackie and friends, sitting by the beach and nature, potentially in Pigeon Bay.
