Biography

In 1839 Ebenezer Hay and his wife Agnes (née Orr) travelled to New Zealand on the Bengal Merchant, which arrived in Wellington in early 1840. In April 1843 they settled in Pigeon Bay with another family, the Sinclairs. The Hays called their house and farm Annandale, after their ancestral farm in Ayrshire, Scotland. Thomas Orr Hay (1842-1909) was the second son of Ebenezer and Agnes. On 31 March 1875 he married Hannah Longmuir, only daughter of Rev. John Guthrie of Glasgow, at Hays' house in Pigeon Bay. Thomas died on 28 June 1909 in Gothenburg, Sweden, and Hannah died in Bournemouth on 14 April 1924.
