Biography

William Brown served with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, probably in Turkey. He was wounded in the hip and sent to a military hospital in Malta, and then on to England.

The World War I papers of William E. Brown includes a letter and two postcards from a military hospital in Malta, a Christmas card with a Dardanelles photograph, and two unlabelled portrait photographs, most probably of the author. These letters and cards are addressed to Jeff Box, then a little boy living in Ashburton.
