Biography
William Holmeswas born in 1814 and grew up at Slane Castle, Ireland. He worked as a gardener there and at other Irish estates until the potato famine, when he and his family emigrated first to Melbourne (1852) and then to Otago (date uncertain, but before 1865). A religious man all his life (the tone of this autobiography is strongly religious), William Slane became a Christadelphian in 1865, and was active in this religion.
