Biography

Mary Colborne-Veel was a Christchurch poet, writer and philanthropist, the daughter of Joseph Colborne Veel, editor of the Christchurch Press from 1861-1878. She was a faithful member of St. Luke's Church, and a co-founder of the Canterbury Women's Club in 1913. Never strong, ill-health caused her to move from the city to Sumner, where she died.
