Biography

Edward and Rhoda Kent arrived in Canterbury in 1851 on the Castle Eden. They established a farm, Radley, at Woolston. In 1856 Edward died and Rhoda wrote to her sister in England to come to join her.

The papers of the Kent family include manuscripts and photocopies of a genealogical table; transcriptions of Rhoda Kent's letter (1856) and two letters from Isobel Prosser (1992), giving family and other details.

Rhonda Kent's letter includes practical advice about what to bring when travelling to New Zealand and other details of the voyage out on the Castle Eden.
