Biography
Bill Drake of Opawa was born in Wellington, and educated at Nelson College. He went to sea in 1918, becoming a master mariner. He retired in 1969. This diary was written when he was 18, and recounts a voyage beginning in Newcastle, Australia and ending in Antwerp.

Bound photocopy of the shipboard diary of the Wilfred Daniel Drake on board the barque Rowena of Helingsfors, Finland, 16 November 1922-20 November 1923. This diary was written when he was 18, and recounts a voyage beginning in Newcastle, Australia and ending in Antwerp.
Includes a copy of Bill Drake's obituary, 26/1/87, with a photograph of him, and copy of a review (12/12/87) of the book, Canterbury coasters, which mentions him.
