Biography
Daniel Gow, from Perthshire, was 25 when he wrote this letter, which gives his aunt an account of his family's new life in New Zealand. The family (consisting of Daniel, his parents, brother and three sisters) settled near Rangiora. Daniel, who had worked in the grocery trade in Scotland, initially took on such work as was available, but eventually became a storekeeper in Christchurch.
