Biography

Mrs. Flygenring's grandparents, the Roses and the Stades, all came out to Nelson from Germany in the 1840s. She was born in 1910 on a sheep farm in Rosedale, Nelson. She was sent to school at Neudorf, then to Nelson Girls' College. She then went to Christchurch Teacher's College, and began her teaching career in 1931. In 1938 she married a Dane, Ken Flygenring, and they had four children. In 1952 the family moved fron Nelson to Christchurch. Mrs.Flygenring was involved with many causes, for justice, peace, and the environment.
