Biography

Issac and Ann Bryan (née Collett) came out to Canterbury on the Cressy in 1850. Francis and Sarah Collett, Ann's parents, travelled with them, and they were reunited with Sarah Isabella Collett, their eldest daughter, who was already here. In 1856 their sons Henry and William also came here from Australia. Isaac and Ann Bryan and their growing family settled first in Kaiapoi, then Oxford, then Reefton. Issac was a bushman, and was killed by a tree in 1886. Sarah Isabella Collett's first husband was Henry William Roil, licensee of the Sawyers' Arms Hotel. They married in 1854.
