Biography
Edward Gibbon Wakefield helped set up the New Zealand Association in 1837. In 1839 this became the New Zealand Company, of which Wakefield was a director from 1840-1849. With John Robert Godley Wakefield helped form the Canterbury Association

Bound typescript copies of original letters of Edward Gibbon Wakefield to Lord Lyttelton, with two letters from Wakefield to Grey, and Grey's reply, 1850-1854.
Most of these 36 letters were written in England. The letter of 8th. October, 1852, was written from Plymouth, just before Wakefield left for New Zealand. The subsequent letters are from Wellington or Auckland.
