Biography
George John Leech (1821-1902), who arrived at Lyttelton in the Tasmania (the last ship chartered by the Canterbury Association) in 1853, was the first white settler in Rangiora. He established a farm, Brooklands, and built a flax mill and a flour mill.

Photocopies of typescript and manuscript originals of papers relating to the Leech family. Some history of early Rangiora is included here, including that of St. John the Baptist, a Mountfort church built in 1860.
