Biography

Morris Upton was born in Kent in 1851. He married Louisa (Lucy) Harrison in Christchurch in 1876. He was then a baker. In 1891 he deserted his wife and family and went to live in Australia. Two years later he returned to his family but Lucy refused him. He returned to Sydney where he worked for W.E. Woods & Co., manufacturing chemists, on whose paper this ill-spelt letter is written.

His son, Morris Albert, was born in Little River in 1883. In 1907 when he received this letter from his father he was living in Wellington, where he died in 1959.
