Biography
Henry Herbert Clifford was born in Dunedin on 1 May 1872 the son of the Dunedin photographer Robert Clifford and Janet Clifford nee Malcolm.
He worked as an operator at Standish and Preece then left to open his own studio in the newly built Beath and Co. building in Cashel Street in March 1902. In 1926 he the business to the Whitcombe and Tomes' Building at 115 Cashel Street.
Henry married Annette Mary Eleanor Jane Thomas on 24 July 1915 in Christchurch, they would go on to have three children, Robert Henry Clifford b. 1916, Garth Ogilvie Clifford b. 1917 and Alister Bertrum Clifford b. 1918. Rpbert and Alister both died in 1940 leaving Garth Ogilvie Clifford as the only child to survive his father.
