Biography

John Ballantyne was born in Selkirk Scotland 1825. He first emigrated to Sydney in 1852 where he joined the firm of Messrs McArthur Kingsbury & Co. Arriving in New Zealand in 1872 he brought Dunstable House from William Pratt, leaving the running of the business after 7 years to go farm in the Rangitata District. John died in August 1899, leaving three sons and five daughters.
