Biography

Born in England 1823 Willim Pratt came to New Zealand in 1843. He had worked as a drapers assiatant in London before emigrating and after taking up several occupations in New Zealand including farming and store-keeping he brought the drapery business Dunstable House in 1864 which he sold in 1872 to John Ballantyne. William twice served on the Christchurch City Council and was the chairman of Board of Directors for the original Christchurch Tramway Company.

In 1851 he married Sarah Fowler and had three daughters and five sons.
