Biography

Born 1889, Epsom, Surrey. Alan was the son of Walter Robert Tytheridge and Lucy Ann (nee Winterbottom) who emigrated to New Zealand with Alan when he was a child. Alan attended Christ's College and Caterbury College and went on to live in Fiji, the USA and Japan. He spent several decades in Japan where he and friend Eric Stewart Bell survived the Great Kanto Earthquake, 1923. Alan was interned in Japanese prisoner-of-war camps during World War II. Died, 1959, Yokohama.
