Biography
James Rattray, 1827-1905, was born in Stirling, Scotland. He came to Dunedin in 1860, when he and Edmund Dalgety set up as merchants and stock and station agents. In 1874 he retired from partnership and set up J. Rattray & Co. In 1888 his son Charles became his partner - J. Rattray & Son.
