Biography
Stephen Sheat came out to Nelson in the Maori in 1853, aged 17. In 1864 he married Charlotte Spittals, one of the first European children born in Nelson, and in the same year they moved to Horrellville, North Canterbury, where they established a farm, Somerset. This farm is still in family ownership.
