Biography
Peggy was born to Analytical Chemist Thomas Carter and Emma Carter nee Hodgson at Ravensthorpe, Yorkshire. She spent part of her childhood in Jamaica before returning to England and earning her B.Sc in Botany at Bedford College London. She taught in England during World War Two and at Christchurch Girls' High School and St Margaret's College when she came to New Zealand. Peggy married teacher Norman Powell Astley on the 2 September 1939.

From the Collection:
Cassettes containing oral histories, predominantly of women connected to Canterbury University. The initial project was set up by the Canterbury Branch of the New Zealand Federation of University Women in 1989. Most interviews are conducted by Stancey Yeabsley and were recorded between 1989 - 2009.
