Biography
Agnes was born to commercial traveller William McLaughlin and saleswoman Olive nee Calder (adopted from Beck) at Christchurch. She was a Librarian who worked across Canterbury and the West Coast, including as a member of staff of the Country Librarian Service it its early days. In 1974 Agnes married stock and station agent William Steele.

From the Collection:
Cassettes containing oral histories, predominantly of women connected to Canterbury University. The initial project was set up by the Canterbury Branch of the New Zealand Federation of University Women in 1989. Most interviews are conducted by Stancey Yeabsley and were recorded between 1989 - 2009.
