Biography

Margaret was born to Master builder John Riddell and Housekeeper Edith May nee Yarr at Wellington. During World War Two she was the first New Zealand women to gain a Diploma in Anaesthesia in England and worked at the Great Ormond St Hospital for sick children. In 1947 Margaret married Carl Clough Smith.

Cassettes containing oral histories, predominantly of women connected to Canterbury University. The initial project was set up by the Canterbury Branch of the New Zealand Federation of University Women in 1989. Most interviews are conducted by Stancey Yeabsley and were recorded between 1989 - 2009. New Zealand Federation of University Women Oral History Project
